Together, my brothers, my sisters, we are going to begin a new struggle, a sublime struggle, which will lead our country to peace, prosperity, and greatness. Together, we are going to establish social justice…make the Congo a nation, happy and free           - Patrice Emery Lumumba.

 Activities

During the forthcoming years CIC will schedule its activities in pursuit of the following goals as set below:

  • Organizing family and/or community based workshops among the Congolese Diaspora to attract active grassroots interest and informed participation about the future of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC);
  • Building on these workshops, organize statewide forums in every state of the United States and in other countries which will address these issues with a wider scope of participation to include other individuals, representatives and organizations like churches, human rights organizations, etc.;
  • To support the growth of the current fragile democracy in the DRC through community development by providing “grassroots” leadership training;  
  • Organizing an international summit conference on the development of peace and democracy in the DRC in June, 2009;
  • Organizing a football (soccer) tournament with Congolese participants later in the summer of 2009;
  • To work with the US Administration,  the Congress, international organizations and the international community through churches, NGOs and other public and private entities;
  • To represent the DRC’s interests by:
    • Producing a monthly Policy Briefing concerning events and the situation in the DRC;
    • Circulating an omnibus petition against the perpetrators of ongoing genocide in the DRC; and
    • Giving testimony by personal appearances, writing letters, etc. relating the plight of the DRC and exposing the various conspiracies against its interests;
  • To expose international corporations exploiting the natural resources of the DRC illegally;
  • To support UN efforts to establish an international tribunal for the DRC, and to urge the international community to create other mechanisms for reparation for the destruction imposed on the people, infrastructure and the habitat of the DRC; and
  • One Dollar Campaign - To coordinate fundraising activities by and for the benefit of the  Congolese people, specifically to:
    • Help the rape survivors recover;
    • Support orphans of war in the DRC, and especially provide educational opportunities for street and/or abandoned children; and
    • Support ongoing efforts to condemn the war/genocide/foreign intervention and occupation in the DRC.
